Item Description

Do you appreciate fishing for Idaho's Chinook salmon but want to learn more about their spawning process? Are you in good shape and enjoy challenging learning experiences? If you answered "yes", then this trip is for you!

TWO HARDY AND PHYSICALLY STRONG PERSONS will need to be capable of sitting in a vehicle for 3 hours (one way) along a road that twists and winds along a river; capable of physical activity during fish sorting and lifting fish weighing 15-20 lb.; able to stand in water for up to an hour in chest waders and able to stand on slick concrete surfaces.

You will travel with a five-to-six person Idaho Department of Fish and Game Fisheries crew from Ahsahka, Idaho to the Powell station, traveling 125 miles on Idaho's Highway 12 along the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers.

You will assist the crew with sorting the adult Chinook for spawning and then assist with the spawning operation and transport of the eggs back to the main hatchery.

Option to either stay the first night at the dorm located at the main hatchery in Ahsahka and leave early the next morning around 0530 with the egg transport vehicles or spend the first night at the Powell cabin and start sorting the adults around 0730.

TRIP AVAILALBE AUGUST 2010. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with the spawning crew at the Powell cabin is included. Boots and rain gear will be provided.

You will need to bring sleeping bag, personal items for overnight stay, sturdy shoes, change of clothing in case you get wet.

Winning bidders must provide transportation to the Idaho Fish and Game Powell fish trap and/or Clearwater Fish Hatchery. 

Item Special Note

Winning bidders need to be able to ride in a vehicle for 3 hours that curves along a highway above a river. Must be in good physical shape and capable of lifting 15-20 pounds, standing in water and slick surfaces.

Winning bidders will be contacted by Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation staff for scheduling and confirming trip dates.

PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the winning bid price a 3.45% credit card fee, plus 35 cents per transaction will be applied to each item. A 6% Idaho Sales Tax will be added to the final bid price for all land-based trips. For all navigable water-based trips, no sales tax will be charged due to Federal law. All sales are final.
