Put your beginning-reader on the road to success with 3 sessions with professional Reading Tutor Chris Mandell. 

 

These lessons are suitable ONLY for children age 4 + who read at OR BELOW a 2nd grade level.

 

The first session consists of an assessment of your child’s phonemic awareness and phonics skills. The subsequent two sessions would consist of lessons based on the results of the assessment.

In the case of 4- and 5-year-olds, I would substitute an extra reading lesson for the assessment.

 

 

Winners of the auction should contact Ms. Mandell as soon as possible to schedule mutually convenient tutoring sessions.

 

Allergy Warning:  All lessons take place in a home-office in West Roxbury. The home has cats, so these lessons are not suitable for anyone with allergies.

Item Special Note

Limitations:

  • These lessons are suitable ONLY for children age 4 and up who read at OR BELOW a 2nd grade level and have the behavioral capacity to participate in the tutoring sessions.
  • If all my tutoring slots are filled by other students when you call, we will have to wait until a student completes tutoring and that slot opens.
  • To maximize the effectiveness of the tutoring, all lessons must occur within a 5-week period.
  • All 3 lessons must be completed by December 10, 2010.
  • One parent may observe all three lessons.
  • No other adults or children may be present.
  • This offer is for parents to purchase their child, NOT for teachers to purchase for their students.

About Ms. Mandell:

I’m a certified reading specialist with an M.Ed. in Reading Education, and a B.A. in English, summa cum laude. I’ve been trained in 3 phonics methods: Phono-Graphix, Lindamood, and Orton Gillingham.

 

I work with beginning readers, remedial readers, and special needs students (without severe behavior problems). I’ve had great success with teaching children to read, and can provide excellent references.

 

Formerly, I worked as a tutor with “The Learning Lab @ Lesley,” where parents were charged $65.00 per 50 minutes of my tutoring time. Now that I’m in private practice, I charge only $35.00 per hour. I’m a published poet, and have written a series of children’s stories that are designed to teach children how to read;  I incorporate lots of games, toys, and students’ own stories into my lessons for a child-friendly approach.
