In 1980, she co-founded the National Women’s History Project (NWHP), which spearheaded the movement for what has become National Women’s History Month. MacGregor has served as the Executive Director of the NWHP for the past 29 years.

During that time, she has worked with leaders of national women’s organizations to encourage them to celebrate their own organizations’ history as well as to build coalitions to develop programs and events that celebrate the vast array of women’s historic achievements.

She has worked with school districts throughout the country to train teachers in ways to integrate a multicultural women’s history perspective into the school curriculum. A recognized in the field of women’s history, MacGregor has keynoted hundreds of women’s history events and conferences.
