Item Description

Birders and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy this "Watchable Wildlife" trip.

TWO PEOPLE will join an Idaho Department of Fish and Game Biologist and oarsman for a spectacular day of bird surveys on the mighty Salmon River, one of Idaho's "Blue Ribbon" Birding Trail sites.

The driftboat trip will travel down 20 river miles of lush cottonwood forests, breathtaking scenery, and rollicking waters teeming with birdlife.

Winning bidders will be rewarded with unparalleled views of bald eagles, peregrine falcons, ospreys, great blue herons, and other nesting birds, while learning about avian ecology and assisting with surveys. At the height of the breeding season, birders can expect to see 6 different species of swallows, Lewis' woodpeckers, canyon and rock wrens, American dippers, white-throated swifts, and abundant waterfowl. In addition to birds, mule and white-tailed deer, river otter, mink, and beaver may be encountered around the next river bend.

After an exhilarating day on the river, dine in good taste and style with a $25 gift certificate from BERTRAM'S SALMON VALLEY BREWERY located in downtown Salmon, Idaho.

This trip includes a donated ONE ROOM/OVERNIGHT STAY at the charming and rustic GREYHOUSE INN BED & BREAKFAST just a short from Salmon, Idaho.

The birding trip is recommended in MID-TO-LATE JUNE 2010 during the peak of the bird breeding season and after high spring flows have subsided. For best viewing, winning bidders should be "early birds" - willing to launch by 7:00 am! Bring binoculars, cameras and appropriate layered clothing in case of cool or inclement weather.

Breakfast, lunch, beverage and snacks will be provided for the boat trip. Winning bidders provide own transportation to Salmon, Idaho.

Winning bidder will be notified by Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation office staff. Trip dates are non-negotiable.
