Item Description
San Diego Joey by Stuart Arnett was inspired by a recent visit to the San Diego Zoo in 2009. A sense of texture and motherly affection is conveyed in this charming drawing. Detailed in graphite, a mothering koala looks back to check on her little joey as both they sit perched, high up in a eucalyptus tree.
Stuart Arnett grew up in Gananoque, Ontario, in the heart of the 1000 Islands. This is arguably one of the most beautiful areas of Eastern Ontario and it played a significant role in his wildlife and nautical interests. Arnett works primarily in graphite, prefering to capture a high level of detail. With an educational background in science and chemistry, Arnett had no formal art training, but grew up in a home where arts and crafts were common place were extremely influential. Arnett now lives in Ottawa with his wife Tracy and two young daughters.
