EXIT THE KING
2009
KING BERENGER
King Bearenger wears an “authentic” replica in that it was created from the actual fabric remnants from Mr. Rush’s actual Broadway costume. The pajamas are custom dyed periwinkle blue and red striped cotton. The purple velvet cape and train with champagne satin lining feature the same hand-painted gold details and include an exact, to-scale replica of the royal crest designed by Dale Ferguson. The ivory faux fur trim features ermine tails made from tip dyed yarn (as opposed to real ermine). The ribbon collar is assembled from blue and red moiré faille and features a replica of the King’s medallion made from brass findings. The crown is a scale replica made from hammered brass and assemblages of brass findings that suggest the same as the original. The bear holds a scepter of brass with a ball finial. King Bearenger’s wig is hand hooked (ventilated) white yak hair on net and his face is painted in the theatrical makeup style that Mr. Rush applied daily in preparation for his Tony Award winning performance.
