Item Description
A WATCHABLE WILDLIFE trip and BE OUTSIDE trip for the whole family (two adults with up to three children 8 yrs and up).
Spend the day (overnight camping optional) at Lucky Peak with the Idaho Bird Observatory (IBO).
This premier bird migration site, located within the Boise River Wildlife Management Area, is one of only a few known sites in the western United States where thousands of raptors, songbirds, and forest owls concentrate during fall migration.
Your day begins in the morning (plan to arrive by 0800) when you join the songbird crew capturing migrating songbirds using mist nets. Next, experience the daily hawk watch while enjoying a delicious picnic lunch.
After lunch you will join IBO's Executive Director in the hawk trapping blind to see how raptors are captured and banded.
Later, join researchers for dinner before beginning the evening owl festivities (calling, netting, banding). Net runs are made every two hours starting after dark, so you can decide how late you wish to stay (or pull an all nighter!).
TRIP VALID SEPTEMBER 2010.
Winning bidder needs to provide transportation to Boise River Wildlife Management Area as well as snacks, water, outdoor wear, head lamp and camping gear (if staying overnight). Lunch and dinner are provided.
Opportunities during the day also include short hikes in the forest and a tour of the Boise River management area lead by an Idaho Department of Fish and Game habitat biologist. For more information about your trip, visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAFiXjv71lc
