CHISTERY

Chistery, Elphaba’s head servant, who formerly was head servant in The Wizard’s army of monkeys, sprouts wings in order to spy from the air.  Our Chistery bear has all the makings of a miniature flying monkey in this beautiful recreation of Susan Hilferty's original Tony Award winning design which was based on traditional early Georgian period Livery that you would find in any court. The burgundy chenille frock coat is lined in red silk and adorned with gold lame and over 3 yards of hand-dyed red and gold braid with an inset gold striped satin vest that buttons down the front. Underneath this detailed outer garment is a unitard of spandex and burn-out velvet, hand-painted in a musculature pattern. On his feet are specially designed two-toe blue leather shoes and his hands sport matching blue leather gloves. He wears a hand-sculpted mask based on the originals, hand-painted to match the skin-tone of the actor (or bear, in this case). Intricately painted wire, inset one at a time, make up Chistery’s head of disheveled hair. What makes Chistery bear extra special is his elaborate leather harness with fully functional wings. The wings, originally designed to resemble that of a bat, have been faithfully reproduced in ursine scale. Hidden beneath his coat, he has a two-point rig that, when pulled, make his wings open up to an impressive span of over 3 feet. The silk chiffon wings have been air brushed to achieve the proper colors and effects of the originals, while still staying true to the nature of our chubby little bear.  Sometimes when something seems frightening and “Wicked”, looks can be deceiving and this is the case with our Flying Monkey, who is really just a teddy bear at heart!
