Item Description
This trip offers an extremely rare opportunity to participate in official birding surveys not usually available to the public.
Now, TWO WINNING BIDDERS have the opportunity to join Idaho Department of Fish and Game in this once-in-a-lifetime birding survey!
You will assist Fish and Game biologists counting two of the largest white-faced ibis and Franklin gull colonies in Idaho!
Spend TWO DAYS canoeing and wading through the colonies at Idaho's Mud Lake and Market Lake Wildlife Management Areas, assisting Idaho Fish and Game in counting nests for estimating population sizes.
Mud Lake and Market Lake are both premier WATCHABLE WILDLIFE SITES, and are home to more than 50,000 nesting ibis and gulls!
On the first day, you will receive nest count training in the morning at Market Lake and spend the day with a team of wildlife biologists counting thousands of nests. A picnic lunch will be provided, where you will relax on the shoreline watching birds of all shapes and sizes flying and swimming around the marsh. In addition to ibis and gulls, you will see many species of ducks, grebes and herons.
For dinner, you will enjoy a Dutch oven dinner prepared by regional wildlife biologists at Market Lake Wildlife Management Area.
The next morning you will meet up with the biologists at Mud Lake Wildlife Management Area for a second day of canoeing and wading through another large ibis and gull colony.
Please note - this colony is more remote than Market Lake and can only be seen by canoe; and canoeing, at either colony, is only allowed when conducting official surveys.
TRIP VALID in early June - you will need to choose either June 1 and 2; or June 7 and 8; or June 8 and 9 or June 9 and 10, 2010 - trip is weather dependent!
Trip includes a generous donation for a ONE ROOM/ONE NIGHT stay at The Best Western Driftwood Inn http://bestwesternidaho.com on the banks of the Falls near downtown Idaho Falls.
