Item Description

Although the art design is a contemporary overlay, the underlying medium is a perfectly intact piece of antique glass, imbued with wonderful slight imperfections that reveal the age of the substrate glass. This artistic creation is an incredible crafting of botanically accurate ferns. This is a truly versatile and impressive piece that could fit in with any realm of traditional or modern interior design.

The artistry of this work must be examined closely to be appreciated. The Blechnum ferns are notable in New Zealand, where they grace the ancient podocarp forests, considered the oldest primitive intact forests of the world. The fern designs are so intricately realistic that the artist must have used actual fern fronds to cast the outcome design. Nevertheless, the resulting artwork of elegant pinnate fern leaves superimposed on the rich smoky antique glass creates a unique creation that will keep your guests captivated for considerable lengths of time.

This piece is derived from the collection of The Corner Store on Sonoma Plaza, which features an elegant and eclectic assortment of linens and other accoutrements to grace the stylish Sonoma country home. The Corner Store offers an incredible array of fabrics, some of which derive from distant lands and would be unlikely to be found in other venues in the USA.

The Corner Store is housed in one of Sonoma’s oldest and historically most significant buildings. In earlier days it was a hardware store carrying everything from hand tools to mattresses and refrigerators. Now it is an inviting spot to discover wonderful additions for the gracious Sonoma Valley home...or for those emulating such a lifestyle. Wonders for the bath, as well as table linens, exotic bed linens and even baby items can be found here.

Item Special Note

The botanical artwork is mounted in a rich antique gold wooden frame. You are bidding on the item on this page as a single piece. This piece stands strongly on its own, or could be part of a three element set for the aggressive bidder, who wants to bid on the other pieces and have it all.

This artwork is professionally encased in a rich antique gold wooden frame, which is fitted with a sturdy hanging bracket on the reverse side and is totally ready to hang on your wall. The photograph has a small dark circular element in the lower part of the image, which is an artifact of the reflection from the antique glass; in reality there is no such artifact on the artwork itself.
