Item Description
The Marsh develops new performance. It encourages and supports all stages of this development by providing artists with an intimate performance venue and an environment that encourages experimentation by giving audiences a place in which to see work on the cutting edge of creativity.
Like the Mission District (the neighborhood it calls home), The Marsh San Francisco houses artistic ingenuity and inimitable local flavor in a funky, homespun package.
This 110-seat black box community theater is an incubator for first run theater and performance art, with an emphasis on solo work.
Far from the old world opulence of Civic Center's operas and symphonies, or the buttoned-up glass and chrome of downtown's museum district, the Marsh is where you go when you're in the mood for an intimate, we-laughed-we-cried tete-a-tete with talent.
It's the kind of homey, supportive, community-oriented place where you can grab a $1 cookie and cup of joe at the refreshment stand during intermission, or linger for beers and shop talk with the performers themselves after the show.
