Item Description
Step back to 1863 as part of a 20th Maine Union encampment of living historians. Defend the Union in battle as cannons roar, ride the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow-Gauge Railroad steam train through a mountainside redwood forest, attend a ball where ladies and gentlemen dance to live music of the 1860s, enjoy camaraderie around the campfire, and drift off to sleep as a bugler’s clear notes echo Taps across Union and Confederate camps.
Weekend for four people includes breakfast, lunch, and supper on Saturday and Sunday, two nights’ shelter in an authentic canvas tent with lantern for illumination, safety training before going on the battlefield, and the loan of soldier or civilian clothing and gear (average sizes, male and/or female).
Memorial Day Weekend dates: Friday evening, May 28, 2010 through Sunday evening, May 30, 2010. Location: Roaring Camp, Felton, CA (Santa Cruz County).
Guests must be at least 12 to go on the battlefield and age 14 or over to carry a rifle. All ages welcome at all other event activities, living history displays, and in camp. This annual event draws large audiences during the day.
Questions may be addressed to Lt. D. Thomas Starr at tstarr@cmc.net.
