Item Description

Certificate to a "Survivor" fan party for Yau-Man Chan of CBS' reality TV show... this auction item is for  a "Survivor" tropical BBQ party with Yau-Man.

The dinner will be a tropical BBQ for up to 12 people with all the fixings and may be held at the home of Lise and Carl Danner or at your home, at your choice.

Yau-Man tells us, "Usually on these events, I give a 20-30 minute talk about behind the scene stuff on the island and then the rest of the time answering questions. I did a 2-hour Q&A on a BBQ event last year!"

Yau-Man was the fourth place finisher in the show "Survivor: Fiji" and returned to the show in "Survivor: Micronesia."

Survivor host Jeff Probst called Yau-Man an "unlikely hero. There are just some people who have a way about them - instantly charming - that makes you want to pull for them."

In the polling at the official Survivor website, Yau-Man was voted as being the favorite survivor of the Fiji season, with a 65.5% popularity rating.

An atypical Survivor contestant, he achieved much success through his knowledge and utilization of basic physics. This was evident from the first episode. After the repeated efforts of much more muscular contestants, he was the only one able to open a box of supplies the tribe received.

While others had used various brute force methods to open the box, Chan simply dropped it on its corner onto a rock, opening it immediately. In this way he was also able to beat younger, fitter and theoretically stronger players in challenges.

Yau-Man is the Chief Technology Officer for Computing Services, Network Services, and Telecommunications at the University of California, Berkeley's College of Chemistry and a champion table tennis player. Born in Malaysia, Yau-Man graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
