Item Description

My chair is a fairly literal interpretation of the theme, from the perspective of the “Wizard of Oz”.  It depicts Dorothy on the back, looking off into the distance, surrounded by small illustrations of the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man.  The seat is decorated with the theme, and the ruby slippers Dorothy used, along with this saying, to take her back to Kansas.  The arms of the chair depict the yellow brick road; they attach to the back of the chair, so in this case we are taken by the road to Dorothy, rather than to Emerald City.  We empathize with her initial yearnings for a better place and a brighter future, while we realize, as she did, that our “roots” always ground us, guide us, and make us who we are.
