Item Description
The winning bidder will receive a limited edition print by Rie Munoz, entitled, "Getting Ready for the Season."
In 1951 Rie Muñoz was planning a vacation. Looking at a map, she randomly drew a line from her home in California to the farthest point she could visit on her limited budget. She opted to go to Alaska, traveling up the Inside Passage by steamship, and fell in love with Juneau. She gave herself one day-until the boat was scheduled to depart-to find a job and a place to live. She landed a newspaper job and Alaska has been home to Muñoz ever since.
She describes "Getting Ready for the Season"as:
"This southeast Alaska fishing village, Pelican, is in my estimation the most picturesque of all in the area. Most every house overlooks the boat harbor. The main street is a sturdy plank, one-laner, on pilings, over the water. As the summer salmon season approaches, the preparation activities on the waterfront go into full swing. A little more scraping, painting and scrubbing and this troller will be ready to float off the grid and head out for the fishing grounds."
This 1996 sold out limited edition print is #53/950. It is shrink wrapped on an acid free mounting and is unframed. Size is approximately 23.5" X 18.5".
