Item Description

Guided tour by car (with Thoreau Society member Dale Schwie) of Minneapolis area sites visited by Henry Thoreau and Horace Mann, Jr. on their 1861 trip to Minnesota, including Nicollet Island, St. Anthony, Lakes Calhoun and Harriet, Minnehaha Falls and Fort Snelling. This would take most of one day; can accommodate up to three people. On second day, Dale will take you down to Redwing, Minnesota on the Mississippi River. Climb Barn Bluff as Thoreau did, then drive along the river to where the Mississippi widens to what is known as Lake Pepin. Beautiful bluff areas. (No bluffing!) Value: $250.00 Donor: Dale Schwie

Item Special Note

Tours can be arranged at mutual convenience of bidders and donor. Dale suggests that optimal time is late May or early June, the same time of year that Thoreau visited.
