Item Description
Materials/ Description of Process: Cotton fabric, recycled window, top-secret glue. Miss K's 1st grade students studied the many shapes that create Chicago's brilliant skyline. They recognized through interactive exploration that the John Hancock is a combination of a trapezoid, squares, diamonds, and triangles whereas The Sears/Willis Tower is a combination of rectangles of varying dimensions. After discussing the concepts of color and composition, students in small groups chose a fabric and designed their own skyscraper. After choosing an appropriate location for their building, students painted on a top-secret glue mixture to adhere their building to the glass, ensuring that every building is a visible component of the skyline. After students built the entire skyline, the evening sky was adhered. The result is this 30 x 37 stunning piece of collective imagination and artistry.
