Item Description

The hobby of Model Railroading is a fascinating pastime that can be shared by young and old alike! It can be a wonderful family activity that stresses creativity and togetherness. Model railroading offers fun and excitement and this is your opportunity to see one of the largest privately owned model railroad layouts in this area!

Jim Cesare, Brown School Board member and dad to students Sherry and Jim, has one of the largest privately owned model railroad layouts in this area, and is offering a 2-hour session of running my model railroad layout for up to 6 adults/children!

The layout encompasses over 1,200 sq. ft. and depicts the cities of Albany, Schenectady, Amsterdam, and Rensselaer (era 1941-1951), with several identifiable structures, such as Albany Union Station, GE, West Albany Yards, Schenectady Chemical, American Locomotive Company, and Schenectady Union Station.  Jim's collection has some of the famous name trains that ran through this area, such as the “20th Century Limited” and the “Empire State Express.”  It also has three working turntables for turning the locomotives and features both steam and diesel locomotives, with sound, and some with smoke. There are also several working lighted billboards and a partially lit downtown Schenectady.
