Item Description
Audubon parent, Fred Simon, has been making music for more than thirty years, composing for records, live performance, film, dance, and television, with instrumentation ranging from solo piano to symphonic orchestra. Fred's recorded work includes seven albums of original music under his name, three albums with the Simon and Bard Group, an album of solo piano arrangements of Brian Wilson songs, a collaboration with Paul McCandless and Teja Bell, and numerous appearances on compilations released by various record labels, including Windham Hill and Columbia, and, currently, The Naim Label. All four albums feature Fred's compositions, plus an occasional cover.
Usually/Always (Windham Hill) features lots of great musicians, including Paul McCandless (Oregon), Steve Rodby (Pat Metheny Group), Paul Wertico (Pat Metheny Group), Bonnie Herman (Singers Unlimited), Iain Matthews (Fairport Convention), Ingrid Graudins (The Story), and many others. This album is a film for your ears.
Open Book (Columbia) is the followup to Usually/Always, once again featuring lots of great musicians, this time in more of a rock-funk-folk-jazz setting, plus a semi-classical tone poem.
Dreamhouse (Naim) features Fred's wife, Audubon parent Sarah Allen, on excellent drums, and the renowned Kelly Sill on bass. This is a "live" stripped down performance, recorded in one afternoon.
Since Forever (Naim), Fred's most recent album, celebrates his reunion with Paul McCandless, Steve Rodby, and Mark Walker for the first time in twenty years. As with other Naim productions, this recording is essentially direct-to-stereo; a two-day affair in high-definition.
