Item Description
San Diego pandas! San Diego Zoo has had the most successful giant panda breeding program outside of China and has been a major contributor to the success of panda captive breeding in China. Take a tour (cannot go behind-the-scenes) of the giant panda facility at the San Diego Zoo, led by panda (and primate and cheetah) expert Dr. Donald Lindburg for up to 6 people. Dr. Lindburg, originally a behavioral primatologist, discovered the key to breeding cheetahs successfully in captivity as well as overseeing considerable research on giant pandas at the San Diego Zoo and in the Wolong Reserve, China. The recent breeding success of captive giant pandas in China is due primarily to the work of Dr. Lindburg and his team. Dr. Lindburg has published numerous articles and books and is the former Editor of the journal Zoo Biology. Paired with 2 Air Tran tickets to San Diego.
Item Special Note
Includes tour (date to be arranged with Dr. Linburg) and two round-trip air tickets to San Diego from any airport served by AirTran. The air tickets must be used in conjunction with the tour.
It cannot be guaranteed that all pandas will be available for viewing on the day of the tour. In order to redeem AirTran tickets, please contact Karen Laughlin at 202-633-3036 or laughlink@si.edu.
