Item Description
This one-of-a-kind large ceramic pot is roughly 2 feet high and 1-1/2 feet across, suitable as a major decorative piece, or for a large potted plant.
The artist, Leslie Rae Schmitz had been working with ceramics for many years. Her first exposure came as a summer camper at YMCA Camp Orkila; and a few years later Leslie became the Orkila Ceramics Instructor (aka Clay Lady). During her graduate school years, at the University of Washington, she took many ceramic classes from acclaimed ceramist, Professor Howard Kottler. Later upon moving to Washington, D.C., Leslie was commissioned by the U.S. State Department to do an installation for the renovated U.S. Embassy Residence in Tokyo. Since returning to the Pacific Northwest, she has had a number of commissions and has shown in multiple art galleries. Her hand-built pieces are inspired by the island beauty, including the textures and the reds, greens, and ocher found in the Madrona trees.
