Item Description

You are bidding on the Two of Diamonds , a small-but-mighty 5 inch by 7 inch encaustic and pen and ink painting by Alexandra Petersen.

The background is pen and ink on heavy weight drawing paper mounted on a wood base, over which a thick layer of encaustic is applied. The figure itself is a separate pen and ink drawing, carefully cut with an X-acto blade and soaked in the hot encaustic solution before being fused into the initial layer of encaustic.

PLEASE NOTE: The card suit (the diamond and #2 in the corners) shown on the picture was DIGITALLY ADDED and is NOT on the original work.

This work has an estimated value of $125.

Proceeds from the sale of this piece will benefit Outside In. Outside In is a social service agency dedicated to serving low-income adults and homeless youth. It began in 1968, and has continually revised services to meet changing client needs. Current programs include a community health clinic, a homeless youth program designed to help homeless youth obtain independent living, and risk education.

Alexandra Petersen has been working with art since she was a child (which may serve to explain a lot of things!). She began seriously pursuing a more public profile around three years ago, when she discovered that encaustic and her pen and ink drawings went together like chocolate and peanut butter.

Alexandra has since shown in many venues around Portland, including several solo gallery exhibits in and around the Pearl, and has been kept busy with commissioned works. Despite the relatively brief time in public, the response has been highly receptive and an extremely rewarding experience.

Alexandra lives and works in SE Portland with her husband, two boys, and three dogs. More of her work can be seen at www.alex-h-petersen.blogspot.com, or contacted directly at alexandra-petersen-art@hotmail.com.

Item Special Note

THE FINE PRINT:

Please note that the description above was submitted by the artist.  Also note that the image depicted with the listing is the image used in the Portland Project Deck ... which may be slightly different from the original artwork you are bidding on.  The original artwork also may have had additional aspects or features digitally added to prepare it for inclusion in the deck.  In some listings (but not all) we have mentioned differences between the card image and the original artwork, but in all cases you take final responsibility to be comfortable with the piece of art you are bidding on.  If you have any questions about the difference between the image and the original piece, we encourage you to see the actual piece of art in person before you bid (they are all even more incredible live).  In all cases the artwork is ready to hang but the pieces vary in terms of framing, attached hardware, etc.  To find out where you can view the actual artwork, visit www.facebook.com/artinhandpdx or view the home page of the auction where we have all the showings listed.  If you are the winning bidder we will expect you to make arrangements to have your art picked up either between 9-10pm at the closing reception Saturday evening May 22 or over the following couple of days at Splendorporium (3421 SE 21st Ave) between 11am and 5pm.  If you prefer the artwork to be shipped, expect to pay actual packing and shipping costs (which will vary for each item depending the size, framing, etc.) plus a $25 handling fee.  Note that this could get expensive, so we encourage you to make arrangements to have it picked up locally.  Note that we will not pre-calculate packing and shipping. Although the auction requires you to register a credit card to bid, we will NOT automatically bill your card if you are a winning bidder, as we would prefer to collect your payment by check or cash when you pick up your artwork.  You will receive notice from us if you are the winning bidder with your options.
