Item Description
Bio (a more extended version is available on my website at http://www.elenacronin.com/about, if necessary):
The human figure was the first thing I ever fell in love with drawing, and a large portion of my recent work centers around a first-person perspective of my own body. This concept is something that is rarely seen in art, even though any second-person rendering automatically detaches both the artist and the viewer from the artist's true perspective. I am intrigued by ways of capturing the artist's perspective, in both the visual sense and the mental sense.
One of the aspects of figural artwork that fascinates me is the ability to evoke a very visceral sense of tension through the physical illustration of the body. Many of the positions that I find myself drawn to involve torquing, twisting, or stretching the body in ways that evoke the same acute sensations in the viewer's mind.
The other subject I’ve always been inspired by is nature and wildlife. Part of this intrigue centers around the same aspects that drive my fascination with the human body: the organic quality of the line and form, the way a single nuance in tension affects the entire body. Additionally, this work reveals my love for the outdoors and the natural world, and much of my recent work explores various ways of illustrating the vibrancy, simple purity, and charisma of the animal kingdom and its habitats.
The colorful, graphic quality that has also characterized my recent work lent itself well to this project, and the playful, cartoonish quality that has made appearances in my art since childhood seemed to speak well to the nature of the game. Maybe the peacock knows something about the other players' hands that you don't...?

Item Special Note
THE FINE PRINT:
Please note that the description above was submitted by the artist. Also note that the image depicted with the listing is the image used in the Portland Project Deck ... which may be slightly different from the original artwork you are bidding on. The original artwork also may have had additional aspects or features digitally added to prepare it for inclusion in the deck. In some listings (but not all) we have mentioned differences between the card image and the original artwork, but in all cases you take final responsibility to be comfortable with the piece of art you are bidding on. If you have any questions about the difference between the image and the original piece, we encourage you to see the actual piece of art in person before you bid (they are all even more incredible live). In all cases the artwork is ready to hang but the pieces vary in terms of framing, attached hardware, etc. To find out where you can view the actual artwork, visit www.facebook.com/artinhandpdx or view the home page of the auction where we have all the showings listed. If you are the winning bidder we will expect you to make arrangements to have your art picked up either between 9-10pm at the closing reception Saturday evening May 22 or over the following couple of days at Splendorporium (3421 SE 21st Ave) between 11am and 5pm. If you prefer the artwork to be shipped, expect to pay actual packing and shipping costs (which will vary for each item depending the size, framing, etc.) plus a $25 handling fee. Note that this could get expensive, so we encourage you to make arrangements to have it picked up locally. Note that we will not pre-calculate packing and shipping. Although the auction requires you to register a credit card to bid, we will NOT automatically bill your card if you are a winning bidder, as we would prefer to collect your payment by check or cash when you pick up your artwork. You will receive notice from us if you are the winning bidder with your options.
