Item Description

You are bidding on the King of Diamonds, a 48 inch by 30 inch acrylic and paper mixed media painting by Gary Hirsch. This work has an estimated value of $650.

Proceeds from the sale of this piece will benefit Super Project Lab. SPL uses improvisational theater as a means of teaching life skills to underserved populations. They prompt heightened listening, teamwork, problem solving, creativity in the face of the unknown, through fun interactive workshops, performances, and training.

Gary Hirsch has been doodling since he was a small lad to the wrath of his elementary school teachers and the praise (and refrigerator curation) of his father. Gary has exhibited at The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, The Cleveland Art Museum, Augen Gallery and other Portland art venues. Gary is best know in PDX for his public art work “Upstream Downtown” (18 colorful fish that hang from the S.W. Morrison and S.W.3rd parking structure in downtown Portland). Gary is currently working on a series called "You Name It" an interactive exhibition where the audience names all of the art work.  Gary also runs the creative consultancy On Your Feet. OYF uses improv theater as a training/ideation/presentation tool for organizations such as Nike, Intel, Disney and others (www.oyf.com).To participate in the You Name It Show and see other art works by Gary Hirsch visit www.doodlehouse.com

THE FINE PRINT:

Please note that the description above was submitted by the artist.  Also note that the image depicted with the listing is the image used in the Portland Project Deck ... which may be slightly different from the original artwork you are bidding on.  The original artwork also may have had additional aspects or features digitally added to prepare it for inclusion in the deck.  In some listings (but not all) we have mentioned differences between the card image and the original artwork, but in all cases you take final responsibility to be comfortable with the piece of art you are bidding on.  If you have any questions about the difference between the image and the original piece, we encourage you to see the actual piece of art in person before you bid (they are all even more incredible live).  In all cases the artwork is ready to hang but the pieces vary in terms of framing, attached hardware, etc.  To find out where you can view the actual artwork, visit www.facebook.com/artinhandpdx or view the home page of the auction where we have all the showings listed.  If you are the winning bidder we will expect you to make arrangements to have your art picked up either between 9-10pm at the closing reception Saturday evening May 22 or over the following couple of days at Splendorporium (3421 SE 21st Ave) between 11am and 5pm.  If you prefer the artwork to be shipped, expect to pay actual packing and shipping costs (which will vary for each item depending the size, framing, etc.) plus a $25 handling fee.  Note that this could get expensive, so we encourage you to make arrangements to have it picked up locally.  Note that we will not pre-calculate packing and shipping. Although the auction requires you to register a credit card to bid, we will NOT automatically bill your card if you are a winning bidder, as we would prefer to collect your payment by check or cash when you pick up your artwork.  You will receive notice from us if you are the winning bidder with your options.
