Item Description

Straight from down under: This auction item is an authentic yidaki, an instrument otherwise known as the didjeridu. If the winner is an MTW parent, it will be combined with an introductory lesson in traditional playing techniques by Chris Kahley, an MTW parent. This yidaki comes from North-East Arnhem land in the Austrialian outback. Made from stringybark (Eucalyptus tetradonta) and painted in acrylic pigments of the Galpu Clan totem, this one of a kind instrument is a work of art. Naturally hollowed by termites, it was collected and crafted by Lena Djapilawuy Gurruwiwi, daughter of Djalu Gurruwiwi, famed yidaki craftsman and custodian of the yidaki for the aboriginal people of North-East Arnhem Land. This instrument comes directly from Australia and was generously donated by Guan Lim of iDIDJ Australia, whose mission is to provide absolutely authentic instruments from the Northern territory to museums and individuals in an effort to help support, nourish and educate the aboriginal people. This instrument is as authentic as it gets. It is in the key of "D"
