Item Description
Join 20 of your friends & family in a private performance of “Mrs. Kunitake” on the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.
You will learn, through the talents of veteran actress Akiko Masuda, about Kiyono Hamachi, an amazing woman who in 1910, just 4 months old, traveled in a wagon with her Japanese immigrant parents from Pahala to North Kona. Her family became coffee farmers in Keopu, where she grew up, working hard as a child to help her parents on the farm. After she married Mr. Kunitake and raised a family, her love of the land prompted her to get involved in politics, to preserve the beaches around the Old Kona Airport as a park. Mrs. Kunitake lived a long life, quietly and steadfastly changing the course of Kona’s preservation history. In this performance, we learn what life was like for a young girl, wife, and mother, growing up in the coffee land.
