Item Description

Are you involved in a dispute that just doesn't seem to reach resolution?  Bringing in a mediator may be just the right move.

Local attorney, Joan Pedrick, offers 2 hours of her experienced service as a mediator. Here is how she describes the mediation process:

Mediation is a voluntary process through which two or more parties come together to resolve an issue.  Mediation is distinguishable from arbitration in that a mediator is not making decisions or rulings, but rather aiding the parties in making their own decisions.  Good mediation has a high success rate for long-standing resolution for this reason.

Ms. Pedrick describes her style of mediation as "value-based."  This is also known as consensus-oriented mediation.  This type of mediation tries to examine the values behind the desires and/or demands of parties to better suit each party's needs.  The age-old example of value-based decision making is not to "split the baby."  In other words, the end result need not necessarily be a 50/50.  Value-baed mediation is aiming toward a "win-win".

Mediation can apply in a variety of disputes, such as commercial, legal, diplomatic, workplace, community and divorce or other family matters.
