Holly has been active in drawing for more than 30 years and am a largely self-taught artist. I have had the good fortune of approachable and helpful mentors in many different fields of art including pencils, oils, and watercolors. Drawing is a stress reliever, an outlet that is transformative and brings personal peace.A majority of my work is done in graphite pencil and that medium has been my main focus for the last few years. I find it challenging to be able to create a believable work using only pencils, tortillions and erasing media. There is much that has been learned, but still much to be learned, and that journey has been a joyful one; it’s never been about the destination. I enjoy a wide range of subjects; dramatic light that plays on the sublime movements of muscle structure are my favorite.
A native of California, I have travelled extensively throughout the world. Besides studying fine arts, I hold a bachelor’s degree in biology and have been a quality manager for a pharmaceutical excipient manufacturer for the last 18 years. I have received awards in local and regional exhibitions/competition.
I continue to expand my horizon into color media, experimenting with watercolors – the fluidity and lack of control with the medium is a welcome diversion when presented with a particularly difficult graphite piece.
