BIOGRAPHY
Karl Haendel's meticulous, large-scale graphite drawings often refer to American production and include political commentary along with personal narrative. They have been exhibitied nationally and internationally over the past half decade in group shows as well as in solo exhibitions, such as the one held at MOCA, Los Angeles in 2005. His work has recently been exhibited in the 2008 California Biennial; the Hammer Museum; MOMA, New York; and Uncertain States of America, a touring exhibition that originated at the Astrup Fearnley Museum for Modern Art, Oslo and traveled to various venues, including the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. Haendel was recently commissioned to create a public art project in the SoHo District of New York for the Art Production Fund and has forthcoming projects and exhibitions with MASS MoCA, North Adams and Lever House, New York. Karl is represented by Harris Lieberman in New York City and the Anna Helwing Gallery in Los Angeles. Born in New York, Haendel resides in Los Angeles. He received his MFA from UCLA and his BA in Art Semiotics and Art History from Brown University.
