BIOGRAPHY
Lily Simonson's paintings position semi-terrestrial invertebrates - primarily moths, lobsters, and their fantastical bastard child, the yeti crab - as emblems of transformation and rapture. Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe. In addition to blogging for Art21, her art and writing have been featured in a diverse range of media outlets including Ms. Magazine, The Census of Marine Life Annual Highlights Report, LA Weekly, The Washington Academy of Sciences Peer Review Journal, and MTV. Simonson has taught painting, drawing, and art history at UCLA, CSU Pomona, UC Berkeley and The Public School/Telic Arts Exchange. She holds an MFA in Painting from UCLA. She resides in Hollywood.
