BIOGRAPHY
Soo Kim is an artist and educator whose practice questions the nature of the way photographic images are read. Each of Kim’s works are unique pieces photographs with parts of the image cut away – that use the indexical photographic image, and its removal, to examine and alter the depiction of time and space within a photograph. The deliberately lengthy process involved in making the work infuses a slowness that is a direct response to the haste in which many pictures are created and consumed today.

She received her BA in Art from UC Riverside, and her MFA in Art, Critical Writing, and Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts. Kim’s work has been exhibited in London, Seoul, New York, and Los Angeles and are in many public and private collections, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and The Broad Foundation. She has also curated exhibitions and projects since 1990. Kim is represented by Julie Saul, New York.
