BIOGRAPHY
Mitchell Syrop is an important figure in a generation of West Coast artists who injected humor and pathos into the legacies of ‘60s conceptualism. Syrop’s work has been exhibited widely. He has had solo exhibitions at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and MATRIX 113 – Berkeley Art Museum. His work was included in Word As Image: American Art 1960–1990 at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston and it has been featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; Rental Gallery and Casey Kaplan Gallery in New York City; Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles; and Ritter/Zamet, London, among others. Syrop received his BFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn and his MFA from CalArts. Born in New York, he currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
