BIOGRAPHY
Connie Samaras is a Los Angeles-based artist and writer. Her creative and research interests include built environments, speculative landscapes, political geographies and psychological dislocation in the everyday. She has exhibited her work and given presentations at venues such as the UCLA Hammer Museum; ICA London; Banff Center for the Arts, Alberta, Canada; Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, Australia; and the Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand, among others. Catalogues of her artwork include VALIS (UNAM, Mexico City, 2008), Angelic States - Event Sequence (SFAI, 2002) and A Partial Correction to the Representations of Earth Culture Sent to Extraterrestrials on the 1977 U.S. Voyager Space Probes (New Langton Arts, San Francisco, 1995, funded by the NEA). She is a Professor of Studio Art at the University of California, Irvine, where she is also a faculty member in the Culture and Theory Program and the Women Studies Program.
