Item Description
I grew up in Madison, WI. My mother is a landscape painter so she had a lot of exposure to art and art supplies since the age of 2. Sometimes I would accompany my mom on outings into rural southwest Wisconsin to sketch and paint the countryside. My grandmother was also a painter and attended the Chicago Art Institute, so I guess it runs in the family.
I have a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Environment, Textiles and Design. I also have an Associates Degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in N.Y.C. I worked for 6 years as a sweater designer for a Chicago company called I.B. Diffusion before becoming a mom to 3 kids. I have enjoyed part time work doing custom sewing jobs and working as a freelance costume designer for Theatre Building Chicago. My true love will always be painting though!
When I first moved to N.W. Evanston, I was happy to discover I was within walking distance to a wonderful area called Central St. Besides the shopping and convenience of a post office, I was thrilled to have a library to slip into and check out the latest novels. After becoming a mom, I began to go to the north branch library more frequently for story time. My kids also attended a wonderful reading support program called "Great Books" at the north branch. I always enjoy talking with the librarians who are friendly and knowledgeable about so many subjects. My kids usually start out their research papers at the north branch because there's always someone there to help them. It would be a terrible loss to the community if this library were to close.
