Item Description

This beautiful locally handcrafted necklace is an enamel circle pendant with a red coral beading.  This is made by a local artist, Evelyn DeYoung and donated by Absolutely Art in Madison, WI.

The artist, Catherine Evelyn DeYoung, has worked with metals and enameling since the age of 14.  Enamel is powered glass that is applied to non-alloy metals such as copper, fine silver and 18-24K gold.  The enamel powder can be sifted on or it can be mixed with water and put on by hand in a "slush" form.  After it has been applied and fully dried, the "glass on metal" combination is flash fired at 1400-1500 degrees F.  Catherine's mission is to keep this unique art form alive.

Item Special Note

Absolutely Art opened its doors on April 1, 2005.

They are a Community-Based Art Gallery on the Eastside of Madison.  The community based business idea includes employing people for the neighborhood, supporting local artists by purchasing their work, having a family friendly environment, and producing profit to donate back into the neighborhood (we are a for profit business with a non-profit mentality). The first organization we will be donating to is the Goodman Atwood Community Center and Food Pantry.

Developing ideas include: individual and groups shows, art fairs, drop-in projects for individuals and families, artists creating onsite and artist demonstrations.
