Item Description

SIX bottles of Austrian wine hand picked by a wine connoisseur Nick Brophy:

(1) Saint Meyland Brut - a fantastic sparkling wine for summer (Saint-Meyland is a sparkling wine that meets the same special requirements of the Crémant de Bourgogne, including the méthode Champenoise. Since the grapes are grown outside of the appellation, it is simply a sparkling wine, aged over a year in the bottle. The primary and secondary fermentations, and disgorgement are carried out in the same fashion as the more expensive Crémants, but the price is much more reasonable. Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay & Aligote; (2) Weingut Michlits – Gruner Veltliner 2008 – the flagship of Austrian wines. Grüner Veltliner is a variety of white wine grape variety grown primarily in Austria and in the Czech Republic. It has a reputation of being a particularly food-friendly wine. It is made into wines of many different styles - much is intended for drinking young in the Heuriger (bars serving new wine) of Vienna, a little is made into sparkling wine, but some is capable of long aging. The steep, Rhine-like vineyards of the Danube west of Vienna produce very pure, minerally Grüner Veltliners intended for laying down. Down in the plains, citrus and peach flavours are more apparent, with spicy notes of pepper and sometimes tobacco; (3) Cuvee Julia Reserve 2007 (Blauer Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon) – a fabulous Austrian red; (4) Steininger Pinot Noir- another knock out Austrian Red; (5) Johan Vineyards 2006 Pinot Noir (from the Willamette Valley in Oregon); (6) Remonte Tempranillo 2007 – a classic, hearty red for the ages from Spain
