Item Description
This beautiful example of hand-pounded tapa cloth was made by master lei maker, Marie McDonald, from the bark of the paper mulberry tree. The beautiful black, brown and rust-colored pattern was created from dyes using natural materials and plants found on the Big Island.
Just as wood can have knots from tree branches, a finished tapa surface is cleaner and with fewer holes if the tree has fewer branches. Making the cloth is a time consuming process. It is scraped and beaten to soften it, then dried. The dyes used to make the individual designs are natural.
Item Special Note
Measures approximately 30 x 19 inches.
Winning Bidder is responsible for shipping and handling and Hawaii state tax.
