Item Description
This work depicts Lieutenant George Sutcliffe of Rhode Island, in the air over France just days after D-Day. His group of four had been jumped by twenty BF 109s and he found himself out of ammo with his plane badly shot-up after a lengthy, imossible-odds dogfight (you can see his wingman bailing out in the lower-left corner.)
Despite all that happened, Sutcliffe managed to climb into the clouds - winning a respectful salute from the German pilot on his right. He made it home to fight another day, survived the war, and personally autographed this print, along with the artist.
Rhode Island artist Domenic DeNardo has won a "Best of the Best" award from Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine. One of the reasons his depictions are so realistic is that as well as being a professional artist, he's also a pilot who was trained as an engineer.
If you love aviation, you'll love Domenic DeNardo's art.
Item Special Note
This framed, matted, signed and numbered (220/950) print measures 23"H x 27"W.
