Item Description
19th-Century New York artist Alonzo Chappel is perhaps best known for his paintings of people and events during the American Revolution, but he also enjoyed depicting earlier eras of American history.
Here, in a print produced by Johnson, Fry and Company, Chappel brings to life the momentous 1636 landing of Roger Williams in Providence - the birth of the true separation of church and state, well as of Rhode Island.
Item Special Note
This print, which measures 5 5/8" x 7 3/8", is in fair condition, with a repaired tear between Williams and the Narragansetts greeting him.
