Item Description

Changing the Face Of Power
Women in the U.S. Senate
by Melina Mara
Foreword by Cokie Roberts
Introduction by Senator Barbara Mikulshi
Interviews by Helen Thomas

Changing the Face of Power includes an unprecedented collection of images by acclaimed photojournalist Melina Mara of the record-breaking number of women who serve in the U.S. Senate. The University of Texas Center for American History and the University of Texas Press collaborated to publish this pioneering work.
Going  beyond the fluff, beyond the spin and contrived photo opportunities, to document women doing the hard work of government.  Since mid-2000 this photo journalist has been photographing, in essay form, the 14 women senators who are changing the face of the national political scene.
Besides documenting their unique governing styles on Capitol Hill, this book focuses on several themes including the tools women politicians effectively use, the tightly knit bipartisan relationships they share; their isolation as a minority in the Senate; the loosening grip of the "old boys" network in the Senate, and their attempt to balance family with the high-paced world of national politics."

Library bound, 144 pages with lots of photos
