Item Description
"Oxeye Daisy and Red Columbine" is a professional, archival quality print of an original botanical illustration by Mary McCulloch. The print has been matted by the artist. The print measures 10.5 x 16.5 inches inside an off-white french mat. The entire piece is 15.5 x 22 inches and is ready to frame under glass.
Mary McCulloch says: "My botanical drawings are either pen, ink, and watercolor, or plain watercolor. The original for this drawing was done in ink with a very fine point on a rapidograph pen. I drew straight from live plants on to the paper and once dried, painted the plants in watercolor. The brushes I use are small, some made up of only a few hairs.
This piece is a color reproduction printed with color fast pigments.
I mat my botanicals with a hand torn deckled edge that I custom paint for each drawing. This process takes time but the organic border is a perfect compliment for these native wildflowers."
Biography:
Mary McCulloch grew up hiking and camping in her native Northwest. On summer visits to Orcas she fell in love with botanical illustration through the collection at Fred Darvill's Rare Print Shop. After studying art in college Mary lived briefly on Orcas where she began to draw and paint local wildflowers in this classic style. She has sold and shown her prints and originals since 1976. Her work may be seen at the Orcas Artworks where she has been a member since her return to Orcas in 1997.
