LIVE PERFORMANCE of "LEGACY OF ISADORA"
This performance has received a wonderful, enthusiastic response to this historical performance on the life and art of California-born dancer, Isadora Duncan.
Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) became world famous as the first modern dancer. She made a great impression on many of the famous artists of her time. To name two, Sergei Diaghilev of the Russian Ballet and the sculptor, Auguste Rodin.
She was also devoted to the emancipation of women.
PRESENTATION
I am a solo dancer interpreting the original choreography of Isadora Duncan’s legacy. I include a brief narrative on her life and her many contributions, at the beginning of the program.
The dances are lively, most not longer than four minutes, keeping the program moving at a steady pace. The program will include waltzes from Brahms suite, opus 39, called “The many Faces of Love”. Tchaikovsky’s “March Slav”, a dramatic dance and a variety of dances using music by Schubert, Chopin and Gluck. Isadora’s choreography, reflecting on her stunning choice of classical music, expresses a potpourri of styles, ranging from lyrical to dramatic to revolutionary dances.
Many of the dances interpret the stories of the Greek Myths. Costumes are designed of flowing silks, representative of classical Greek dress.
A guest artist will read selections of short poems from the Orphic hymns.
The Legacy of Isadora is a program culturally enriching and entertaining. It delivers a rare opportunity to witness the vitality and force that made Duncan world famous and has the ability to transport the audience to a time when expression was the "sensation". All ages will experience the beautiful art of Isadora Duncan.
The length of the presentation can range from one to two hours with questions gracefully answered at the end.
I provide a sound system and invite all to view art and books on Isaadora from my personal collection.
