Item Description

Get an “up-close and personal” experience in Denali National Park and Preserve through participating in a 2011 summer field seminar led by distinguished biologists, botanists, geologists, published authors and excellent naturalists. With this unique public land experience you and one guest can enroll in one of Alaska Geographic’s 2-3 day 2011 summer field seminar of your choice.

The specific 2011 seminar topics and dates will be sent to you the first week of December for you to select your seminar preference. You will be given approximately three weeks to make your seminar selection prior to the opening of general registration to the public – so you’re guaranteed to get your first choice.

Field seminars typically are two to three days and run between June and August. Field seminars begin at Denali’s entrance area in the Murie Science and Learning Center and include meals, lodging, and in-park transportation. For teachers, optional professional development credit can be obtained for each of the field seminars (for an additional fee of $69).

To help you prepare for your trip to Denali you’ll receive a special gift package prior to your arrival for the field seminar of Denali products and books along with a one year membership with Alaska Geographic (AG).  Your  AG membership provides a 15% discount at AG Bookstores and online stores, discounts at public land visitor center bookstores throughout the US operated by partner organizations, 10% discount on most AG Institute courses, and a complimentary one-year subscription to Alaska Magazine.

Item Special Note

Topics for field seminars range from year to year. Examples of the 2010 field seminars can be viewed at http://alaskageographic.org/static/185/course-listings

Participants must be capable walkers, in good health, and equipped for sudden changes in weather. Hiking distance and physical fitness levels are described in greater detail for each course.

Transportation to and from Denali is the responsibility of the winning bidder. It is the responsibility of the bidder to work with the Alaska Geographic Staff at the Murie Science and Learning Center to enroll in the field seminar within the deadlines mentioned above or enrollment will be based on availability at time of registration. This package is not eligible for refunds or future credits.
