Item Description
Watermark # 11 was made during my residency at the Tacoma Museum of Glass. The blown and cast piece is based on Hurricane Katrina. The outside of the bowl has a colored ring around it to signify the watermarks left behind by the flood waters of Katrina. Inside the large bowl is a cast glass house form with an” X” on it. All building were marked with an “X “by the police and Army units to designate that the property has been searched for survivors or bodies. Inside the glass house is a figure in distress and a hand reaching up for assistance.
The piece is 18” in diameter and is 12” tall.

Mitchell Gaudet on CERF+:
My name is Mitchell Gaudet and I live in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was teaching a glass course at the Pilchuck school of glass when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I returned to my studio, Studio Inferno, nine days after the storm to find about 250,000 dollars in damage. I was quickly contacted by CERF and offered help. Most artists are used to doing things themselves and find it hard to accept assistance. CERFs help however was from members of my own community, The Arts Community. It meant a lot and helped a lot. The recovery is still on going and we are now faced with the unfolding oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and its effect on the coast.
I am happy to support CERF and know my donation will help another artist, and our community.
