Wood, copper, 22 karat gold gild, copper and silver, paint. Nickel silver.

Kathleen Doyle and Tom Reardon on CERF+:
Hot day at the summer ACC Show, 1985 in West Springfield. Our leader, Carol Sedestrom, and a league of proactive artists and staff announced the begininig of the Craft Emergency Relief Fund. After years of all of us contributing to the many "hats" passed around for fellow artists in need, it was like a summer breeze drifted over all of us. The roar of applause was the jump start; we do not believe the CERF staff have ever stopped running.
Tom and I were reminiscing about how most of us were fairly young then, the demographics of the same group still out there exhibiting are facing the rigors not only of property disasters but health.
Out first loan came after we were robbed after ACC Atlanta in 1996. We had just opened a gallery studio and were continuing with our wholesale business. At that time the 1500 no interest loan gave us the precious funds just to fill in the extensive paperwork required by our insurance company (they did not believe we had actually made our own work). Tom had to photograph the studio , work at all stages , and work process. We did collect some on the insurance so back to work.
Our turn came again in the fall of 2007. I received a surprise diagnosis of operable cancer with a treatment extending into the next year. The high deductible would be kicking in twice and there were 3 shows left to do. Again our friends at CERF gave us the reprieve we needed to make it through the year: a grant and a loan that were sent to us within two weeks! They made it so simple and personal. THANKS AGAIN.
Now we have an opportunity to pay back another way. Our tree of life series just seemed to be the right thing for this auction: 25 leaves of gold, copper and silver . The parts are recycled from other pieces made throughout the years, the tree and leaves from a post consumer green board.
So here is to the next 25 . Hurray for CERF+! Celebrate all of the art-filled lives they have touched, healed, and rebuilt.
