Item Description

14.5" x 10.5"  This is a mixed media mosaic.  The image includes natural stone, unglazed porcelain and smalti.  The image is framed in marble.  The piece is mounted on cement board and weighs 6 lbs.

Mosaic allows me to combine my love of texture, color and fine craftsmanship to create images of the natural world. I concentrate on wildlife found where land and water meet - in particular, herons. The use of natural stone in combination with classic mosaic materials allows me to contrast colr, texture and reflectivity in my work.

Gretchen Schaefer is a mixed media/mosaic artist residing in Portland Maine. Her exhibitions in 2010 include, Great Blue at Fabu, in Portland Maine and Seeing Double at the Attleboro Arts Museum.  Her work is in numerous private collections throughout Maine.  Gretchen is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists.
