Item Description
The title of this work tells you exactly what it is - or was: volume VIII of the eleventh edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica - published in 1910. Completely reworked, it now resides in inked oak frames.
Rhode Island artist Wendy Wahl, noted for creating textiles, carpets and other works in multiple media, has found a new way of recycling discarded books. Her work with old Britannicas has been acclaimed on numerous occasions, including at New York’s SOFA exhibition earlier this year.
Wendy’s work is displayed at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, and the American Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She has exhibited at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, the Newport Art Museum, the University of Wollongong in Australia, and the International Textile Convention, Kyoto,
Japan.
