Item Description

Dr. Bert Fields of the Moses Cone Sports Medicine Center will analyze your gait (observe your body mechanics while walking and/or running). Gait analysis is commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify posture-related or movement-related problems in people with injuries. Dr. Fields will then custom mold and fit a pair of orthotics.

About Dr. Fields:
Dr. Fields is a lifelong competitive athlete. He captained the Yale Cross Country team and was a miler and 2 miler on the track team. He continues to play club tennis, run and compete in Master's track meets nationally and internationally.

Dr. Fields graduated with Distinction from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine in 1976 and the Charlotte Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency in 1979. After 5 years in private family practice in rural North Carolina, he embarked on an academic career. In 1985, he completed a Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of North Carolina with an emphasis on Sports Medicine Research. Dr. Fields is now a Professor of Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill and Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Moses Cone Sports Medicine Center. He is past president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has been a volunteer team physician for middle, high school and college teams, and continues to evaluate elite athletes, particularly runners, triathletes and tennis players. In addition to sports medicine, Dr. Fields' other areas of expertise include exercise physiology, stress testing and orthotic preparation.
