Asian CineVision, Inc. is a not-for-profit national media arts organization dedicated to the development, promotion and preservation of film and video arts by and about people of Asian descent. The organization continues to serve the Asian American community by promoting the works of Asian and Asian American filmmakers and providing a window to the diverse experiences and livelihoods of the Asian diaspora.

Founded in 1976 by Hong Kong cinema legend Tsui Hark, Oscar-nominated director Christine Choy, Danny Yung, and Peter Chow, ACV began as a media activism organization, aiming to raise awareness through media training in local Chinese communities. Members produced a weekly, half-hour show called Chinese Community TV (CCTV), which covered pressing issues such as housing, gentrification and health care.

Reflecting the growth of the Asian American media community and its expanding needs over time, ACV amended its certificate of incorporation to specify much larger purposes: “To produce and to exhibit films and video programs about the experience and culture of Asian and Asian American communities;” “to provide consultation and technical assistance for artists, cultural and media organizations;” “to publish various documentation;” and “to organize seminars, conferences and workshops.”

For over 30 years, ACV has supported filmmakers and the Asian American community through the annual Asian American International Film Festival, the National Festival Tour, the Asian CineVision curated screening program, filmmaker workshops and networking sessions, media literacy initiatives and training workshops, and the organization’s print and media archives.

ACV regularly partners with schools, film societies, performing arts and literary groups, social service organizations, film production and distribution companies and other film arts organizations to co-sponsor and co-produce events which bring high quality media by and about people of Asian descent to a wider audience.

Please consider joining us as a member and supporting Asian diasporic artists. Your generous contributions enable us to provide programming and opportunities that promote and foster talented media artists. Member privileges include free screenings, discounts to ACV sponsored programs, free and/or discounted tickets to the Asian American International Film Festival, a Festival t-shirt, and much more.

The Asian American International Film Festival is the first and longest running festival in the country devoted to showcasing films created by media artists of Asian descent and about the Asian community. Founded in 1978, AAIFF harbors a unique curatorial vision. More than an expression of collective identity, the festival is anchored by the distinct contributions of its members. It is a platform for filmmakers of all backgrounds to develop the constructs of Asian cinema and cultivate the next generation of talent. 32 years after its inception, AAIFF continues to be a leading showcase for Asian American film and video, placing a substantial focus on local and independent works and working to enrich New York’s Asian arts community.

This year, AAIFF will present a showcase of original feature films, short films, documentaries, and other works by artists from throughout the world. Beginning July 23 and running through July 26, AAIFF 09 will feature ten of the year’s best narrative and documentary feature films at our new Chelsea location and over 30 short films at the new Museum of Chinese in America. In addition to the screenings, the festival will also conduct panel discussions, Q&A sessions, workshops and awards.
