Item Description
This is an item for the vintage musical instrument collector or someone who wants to play with an authentic instrument. The tone is mellow and rich.
This World War II vintage horn is brass plated, and is etched with a pattern and the inscriptions "Carl Fischer", "NY", and "Zephyr" on the trumpet bell. The valves are playable but need cleaning and lubrication; the slides also need maintenace. A new mouthpiece is recommended. The metal has the rich patina of age, and the metal of the horn is generally free of dents- remarkable for its age.
The appearance of the trumpet is noticably different from modern trumpets. It has a longer body, and a narrower bell. The body with the mouthpiece is 22.5" long; the trumpet bell is 4.25" in diameter. A case (original?) is included.
Carl Fischer (1849-1923), the founder of the firm manufacturing the trumpet, was by training and profession a musician and manufacturer of musical instruments. Shortly after arriving from his native Germany, he opened a musical instrument store in 1872 on East Fourth Street in New York City, the city's cultural center. He supplied musicians with sheet music and instruments from Europe while supplementing his own income with professional engagements as a violinist in several orchestras and bands throughout the city.
